The 57-year-old director, who made numerous 'The Simpson' episodes as well as 'The Simpson Movie', will direct the reboot which is set to focus more on the animated panther rather than the Inspector Jacques Clouseau, reported Variety.
In the film the panther only appeared in the opening credits. It later landed its own animated show.
Walter Mirisch will produce the movie along with Julie Andrews.
The movie series that started in 1963, spanning over eleven movies starred Peter Sellers, Alan Arkin, Daniel Peacock and Steve Martin in the lead role of Inspector Jacques Clouseau.
