The government special pleader informed the court that the state has enough educational facilities and there was no need to set up JNVs.
He was responding to a PIL filed by Kumari Maha Sabhai secretary Jayakumar Thomas.
There are several state educational board schools, central educational board schools and other educational system schools to meet the needs of the students, the special pleader said.
There is no need for a Navodaya school in the state, and it is the policy decision of Tamil Nadu government, he said.
The petitioner submitted that the central government schools admitted only children of central government employees and hence Navodaya schools should be started in Tamil Nadu.
The National Policy on Education, 1986 had envisaged setting up of residential schools to be called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, to bring out the best of rural talent.
Recording the submissions, the judges directed the Principal Secretary of the Education department to file a counter and posted the matter to July 20.
