In the presence of Managing Director, DMRC Mangu Singh, the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) emerged at the Janpath metro station site after making a 1516 metre-long tunnel from Mandi House rotary on the up line, a DMRC official said.
The tunnel, with an internal diameter of 5.8 meters was excavated within 182 working days and passes beneath a lot of important central Delhi buildings like American Centre, Nepal Embassy, Fulbright House, Antriksh Bhawan, Scindia House, Electrical Sub Station, Janpath Market and Jeevan Prakash Building.
The TBM was lowered in the Mandi House shaft on September 25 last year and after assembly of the TBM below the ground the initial drive began on October 23 last.
