: Braving incessant rains, thousands of devotees today took a holy dip in 'Thula Ghat' of Cauvery river at Mayiladuthurai at the conclusion of the month long 'Thula festival at the famous Mayoornatha Swamy temple in that town.
Devotees believe that a holy dip in the 'Thula Ghatt' of Cauvery at Mayiladuthurai on 'Kadaimugam' day would purify them as it was equivalent to taking a dip in Ganaga, Yamuna and Saraswathi combined.
Earlier in the morning, five important deities, called 'pancha moorthies' were taken in a procession to 'Thula Ghatt' and the most important event - the 'theerthavari' was held.
The 'Mudavan Muzhukku', (signifying the holy dip taken by a physically challenged devotee a day after Kadaimugam) will be held today.
