Threat to Amarnath Yatra from infiltrators always there: DIG

Threat to the upcoming Amarnath Yatra due to the infiltrators from the Pakistani side always remain even though the security grid along the International Border (IB) in Jammu region has been tightened, a senior police officer said here today.
"Areas of Jammu, Samba and Kathua are along the IB so the threat of infiltration from across the border is always there," Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jammu, Samba Kathua Range, Ashkoor Wani said.
The counter-insurgency grid has been kept intact and security measures are put in place along the IB and the hinterland, he said, adding in view of the Amarnath Yatra the security grid has been doubled and all arrangements are being monitored at the highest level.

"Threats would be analysed and arrangements made accordingly. We don't have any specific inputs. We are fully prepared. Inputs like the buildup across the border keep on pouring in. We make preparation when we get any such information," Wani said.
The 48-day yatra will begin from July 2 and conclude on Raksha Bandhan day on August 18.
To a question whether Jammu region was on the target list of militants he said as of now there is "zero militancy" in Jammu region.

"Police is fully prepared to thwart each and every threat. As of today there is zero militancy in Jammu and there is no threat," the DIG said.

He said the militants, who infiltrate, do so in small groups and police do not have information about they having set up a big camp across the border.
In the wake of the terrorist attacks in Punjab, security along the border with the neighbouring state has also been tightened, he said, adding "Entry points from Punjab have already been secured and the security apparatus put in place.
