The Anti-Corruption Bureau has launched a manhunt for three policemen who gave their sleuths a slip after allegedly accepting bribe from a complainant.
Constables Vasudeo Balaram Suroshi and Nandeshwar Govind Dalvi from Murbad police station in Thane had allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 from a person for helping him in a case registered against him, an ACB official said today.
However, later the deal was struck at Rs 5,000.
The person then lodged a complaint with the Thane unit of ACB, which laid a trap at Murbad police station yesterday.
Meanwhile, constable Vishwas Dhondibha Khot allegedly accepted the bribe amount from the complainant at around noon yesterday near the police station and fled from the spot on a motorcycle along with Suroshi, taking advantage of the crowd. The duo then handed over the money to a person near Gamdevi temple and escaped from there.
The ACB officials recovered the amount from the person and launched a search for the three policemen.
Offences under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act have been registered against the three police personnel, ACB said.
