Over Rs seven crore has been earmarked for anti-corruption body Lokpal to meet its expenditure in the next fiscal, showing a three-fold hike in the allocation made last year.
The outlay for Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has also been increased by about Rs seven crore to Rs 27.68 crore for 2015-16.
The provision of Rs 7.18 crore in the 2015-16 Budget outlined by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is for establishment and construction-related charged expenditure in respect of Lokpal, according to Demand of Grants of the Ministry of Personnel.
The outlay for CVC, which acts as the government's nodal agency to check corruption and ensure transparency, includes Rs 25.68 crore to meet its establishment-related expenditure and Rs two crore for "extension work of capacity building of Central Vigilance Commission project".
The Centre had made a token provision of Rs two crore in its last fiscal's budget. The CVC had got Rs 20.35 crore for 2014-15.
The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, (also known as Lokpal) provides for the establishment of Lokpal for the Union and Lokayuktas for the states to inquire into allegations of corruption against public functionaries.
President Pranab Mukherjee had given his assent to the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill on January 1, last year.
The Government is still in process of appointment of chairperson and members of Lokpal.
