The Southern Railway has announced the withdrawl of three halt stations in Salem Railway division owing to poor patronage.
The halt railway stations managed by contractors should have an outgoing passenger count of 25 minimum per day in branch lines.
However it has been observed that from April to December 2017, in the three halt stations, the passenger count falls way below the mark and as such it is proposed to withdraw passenger train service halts and subsequently close the halt stations from March 19, a Salem Railway Division release said.
Puduchatram in Salem-Karur Section between Rasipuram and Kalangani will be stopped, as the average passenger per day is 0 and average earnings per day and month are zero.
Laddivadi in Salem-Karur Section between Namakkal and Mohanur will be stopped as the average passenger per day is 0.6 (that is less than 1) while the average earnings per day is Rs 3.15 and average earnings per month Rs 11.08.
Mekkudi in Karur-Trichy Section between Jiyapuram and Mutharasanallur will also be stopped as the average passenger per day is 20.32 while the average earnings per day is Rs 276.40 and average earnings per month is Rs 4,929.16, it said.
