Three held for smuggling gold worth over Rs one cr at IGIA

Three persons have been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valued over Rs one crore, at Indira Gandhi International Airport here.
The trio were arrested in separate incidents reported at the airport in past two days.
A man, identified as Tanishq G, was intercepted in a joint operation by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Customs authorities at the airport in the wee hours today.
"Tanishq had hidden 1.52 kg gold slab in his bag. Also, his uncle present waiting outside the airport was apprehended for similar charges and was handed over to Customs officials," a senior CISF officer said.

In a separate incident, a man was intercepted by the customs officials on his arrival from Bangkok today. On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, gold weighing 1.5 kg with a market value of Rs 43.44 lakh was recovered, said Sanjay Mangal, Commissioner of Customs at the IGIA.
The gold was concealed in the cavities made in the slippers worn by him, he said.

In the third incident, a person was held late yesterday at the airport for smuggling in half a dozen gold biscuits from Saudi Arabia. Officials identified the accused as Naseem A (31) hailing from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

He arrived here on an Air India flight from Riyadh via Mumbai and was intercepted by CISF personnel based on an intelligence input, the official said.
The estimated value of the gold seized in these three cases is Rs 1.07 crore. All the accused have been arrested and gold recovered from them has been seized, he said.
