Three killed in Karachi violence

The three people were killed in firing incidents as the situation in the city and other parts of the Sindh province remained tense in the wake of a strike called by the Awami Tehreek Party and other Sindh nationalist parties to protest the killing of 12 people during a rally yesterday.

The Awami Tehreek party which is a pro-Sindh nationalist party and the banned Peoples Aman Committee had taken out a rally organised yesterday to oppose the movement to create a new "Mohajir" province.

According to officials transport remained suspended and markets remained closed in Sukkur, Larkana, Shikarpur, Khairpur, Deherki, Shahdadkot, Kandhkot, Ghotki, Kashmore, Noshero Feroz due to the strike.

In, Karachi also many areas remained closed and traffic was also thin on the roads.

Sindh Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah after chairing a high level meeting to review the rally incident announced that a judicial probe would be held into the episode.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik also ordered the formation of an investigation team to probe yesterday's incident and said the inspector general of Sindh will supervise the team which will have members from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Special Branch.
