Three members of a family, including a 7-year-old girl, were electrocuted to death and another girl suffered serious injuries in North 24-Parganas district on Thursday, police said.
The incident occurred when Bijoy Chattopadhyay (45), a resident of Brahmanpara under Basirhat police station, unwittingly touched a live wire hanging from a pole near his house early in the morning.
He died on the spot, police said.
His wife Anushri (37) and one of his twin daughters Tanushri also faced the same fate as they rushed to save Bijoy.
His another daughters Banashri suffered burn injuries.
Describing the incident as 'most unfortunate', Power Minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay said a departmental inquiry has been ordered to identify the persons responsible for the incident and punish them.
