Three members of a family, including a woman, were killed and another injured when a dilapidated building collapsed here this morning following heavy rains.
The family was residing in the three-storeyed building in Dandiya Bara locality which caved in after heavy rains last night.
Vinod Rao, District Collector, said, "It was an old building in dilapidated condition. The injured (an elderly woman) has been shifted to the SSG Hospital for treatment while the debris has been removed."
"Despite a notice being issued for repairing the building, no steps were taken to either repair it or shift the residents to another site," he said.
H J Tapariya, Chief Fire Officer, Vadodara Municipal Corporation, said the deceased were identified as V Vaidya (50), his wife Shweta (46) and their son Kunal (21). V Vaidya's mother, aged 82, was injured.
Meanwhile, as many as 710 people staying in low-lying areas here were shifted to safer places after heavy rain lashed the city, said K S Menat, Deputy Municipal Commissioner.
Vadodara recorded about 131 mm rainfall in just four hours last night, flooding low-lying areas, he said.
Meanwhile, efforts were continuing to trace the two persons, Suresh Rathodiya and Bharat Rathodiya, who were swept away in swollen Dhadhar River at Sokhda Raghu village in the district on Thursday, Menat said.
