Tiger carcass found in Umaria, poachers' role suspected

The carcass of a tiger, aged around four years, has been found in Ghunghuti area of the district and forest officials suspect poachers' role in the wild animal's death.
The district houses the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
The carcass was spotted by a forest patrolling squad at a site close to Shahdol district on Saturday night, Sub- Divisional Officer (SDO), Forest, Rahul Mishra said.
It is suspected the tiger, aged around four years, fell victim to a live electric trap laid by poachers, he said.
"We are waiting for the autopsy report to conclude our finding (the cause of death). Viscera (internal organs) and other body parts were sent to laboratories at Sagar and Jabalpur, respectively, (for examination)," Mishra said.

Mishra said forest teams, assisted by a dog squad, are carrying out further investigations.
It is also possible local villagers had installed an electric fence to deter wild animals and the tiger accidentally came in contact with it, the officer said.
