Tight security across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh for R-Day

Security has been tightened across Punjab, Haryana and their joint capital Chandigarh in view of Republic day functions tomorrow.
Security arrangements have been strengthened at vulnerable places and key installations, including parade grounds were functions will be held, apart from important bus stands, railway stations and government buildings, by putting up additional forces in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, officials said here today.
A general alert has been sounded in the two states in view of the Republic day celebrations with police and paramilitary personnel manning key public places, they said.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will unfurl the national flag at Mohali, while his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar at Kaithal.

Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor of Haryana and Punjab, will unfurl the flag at Karnal.
Solanki was three days back sworn in as Governor of Punjab in addition to his own duties, after Shivraj Patil completed his term as Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator.

All check posts along the inter-state borders on Punjab and Haryana too have been put under maximum alert, officials said.
Services of dog and bomb squads were being taken to sensitise the vulnerable places across Punjab and Haryana, officials said.
Vehicles entering the towns in two states were being checked and hotels were also put under observation, they said.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of Haryana Police Department said that due to restriction on entry of heavy goods vehicle in Delhi in view of Republic Day celebrations, there will be no entry for such carriers in Gurgaon on NH-8 from borders of all neighbouring districts including Jhajjar, Mewat, Faridabad, Alwar (Rajasthan), Rewari, Palwal from 10 PM tonight to 1:30 PM tomorrow.
