Tihar Green inaugurated by Delhi govt

To increase the existing green cover in Tihar Central Jail, project "Tihar Green" was inaugurated by Delhi government today.
As a part of the project, jail administration will plant 10,000 trees this year in the entire complex of Tihar Jail to make the jail environment clean and green.
"This green project will change the micro-environment of the area to recharge the ground water apart from adding the panoramic view of the Jail. The green project will also promote growing organic herbals, vegetables and fruits by using organic manure made up of cow-dung for consumption of inmates," Chief Secretary S K Srivastava said.
The entire green project will be coordinated by DIG, Mandoli Jail who has been entrusted the job for planting these trees of various varieties including fruit trees and herbal plants in association with the Delhi Park Garden Society, Department of Environment and Forests and NGO- Pranav Urja in the entire Tihar Jail Complex.
All the labour work of trenching, leveling of the land, digging of holes, supplying and stacking well decayed cow-dung manure, providing and spreading Neem shield, removal of rubbish including loading and unloading and stacking and lifting of approved dumping ground will be the responsibility of the Horticulture Department, Srivastava said.
To implement the Harit Tihar Project (HTP), responsibilities for execution work, maintenance and caring of plants have been allocated among the different rank officers of the Prison, Horticulture Department and Public Works Department.
