the Tiwa Liberation Army (TLA) was apprehended by the local people and then arrested by the police in Assam's Morigaon district, police said today.
The militant had come last night to Nellie Bazar to serve extortion notes to businessmen in the area and had demanded Rs five lakh from a pharmacy owner, Morigaon Superintendent of Police Ainul Haque said.
The local people apprehended the militant who fired in air in a bid to escape but the police and security forces rushed to the spot and arrested him.
An Italian pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the militant, Haque said.
