There was a clash between TMC and CPI(M) groups but police brought the situation under control, Additional Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Mukherjee said
He said there was no report anyone getting hurt in the incident.
CPIM) MLA Nirapada Sardar, who led his party workers, however, alleged that the TMC men fired two rounds and at least 15 CPI(M) supporters were injured in the incident.
He claimed that he sustained injuries on the hand.
Idrish Ali, the TMC MP from Basirhat, said trouble broke out when the CPI(M) men raised "derogatory slogans" against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Ali, who denied any firing by his party men, claimed the CPI(M) supporters were rather carrying iron rods.
The ASP said police had no information about firing taking place during the clash.
