Ashish Chandra Dutta of the TMC was elected the chairman of the Alipurduar Municipality while Ruma Chatterjee also of TMC was elected vice-chairman.
In the 20-member Alipurduar Municipality, the Left Front had eight Councillors while the TMC and Congress had six Councillors each.
As the six Congress Councillors joined the TMC, the party had a majority in the Alipurduar Municipality.
The TMC national general secretary Mukul Roy said "we (TMC) have taken the responsibility of the Alipuduar Municipality.
