TMC leader hacked to death in Shantipur

A local TMC leader was hacked to death on Tuesday afternoon by unindentified miscreants at Shantipur area of West Bengal's Nadia district, police said.

Shantanu Mahato was attacked by masked miscreants near his home and hacked to death. The miscreants shot several rounds in the air and burst crude bombs while leaving the area, the police said.

He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to family members of Mahato, he was a victim of infighting within TMC.

TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee reacting to the incident condemned the killing and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

"The police should immediately arrest the culprits. I am confident this killing is not a result of infighting, but if anybody from our party is involved we will take appropriate action," he said.
