TMC, which is under attack over the Saradha chit fund scam, today raked up in Lok Sabha the clean chit given to BJP chief Amit Shah in cases probed by CBI, inviting sharp reactions from treasury benches.
TMC member Kalyan Banerjee in the Lok Sabha contended that CBI had said earlier that it had material against Shah but it changed tune after BJP came to power.
"After election, CBI says it (material) is not there," he said while participating in debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address.
Shah was probed by the CBI in some criminal cases but he has either been discharged by court or the investigating agency decided not to prosecute him for want of evidence.
The raising of the issue by Banerjee assumes significance as his party Trinamool Congress is under attack over Saradha scam, with a number of leaders or members arrested in the case by CBI.
Banerjee said people of West Bengal had "shut" BJP's mouth by handing it over defeat in bye-election to a parliamentary and assembly seat each.
"Delhi has given you a lesson. Bihar is waiting. Come 2016, we will show you who is Mamata Banerjee," he said. West Bengal will go to polls next year.
Attacking the government over recent controversies involving Hindutva outfits and some BJP leaders, he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to be "prisoner of indecision" in such matters.
