Chakraborty, who was 63 and a bachelor, died in his sleep due to heart failure, party sources said.
He was one of the founder members of the party in Jalpaiguri district and in the state along with Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee.
He was the first president (Sabhapati) of TMC in the district.
Leaders of various political parties including his own party and North Bengal Development minister Goutam Deb paid their last respects. TMC MLA Alipurduar Sourav Chakraborty also paid his last respects.
Initially, towards the beginning of his political carrier he was the president of Jalpaiguri District Youth Congress.
