Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said a barrage would be constructed across Coleroon river near Aadhanur-Kumaramangalam villages of Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts to store 0.6 TMC of water at a cost of Rs 400 crore.
The barrage would help in storing storm water during flooding in the Cauvery and help save water in the Coleroon, she said.
The government would construct renovate sand vent installed in Uyyakondan channel in Pettavaithalai village near Srirangam of Tiruchirapalli at Rs 14 crore, she said, adding, Rs 48 crore has been earmarked to be spent for irrigation facilities in Theni district.
Similarly, irrigation infrastructure in Erode and Tiruvallur districts would also be improved, the Chief Minister added.
