The Tamil Nadu Assembly would meet on December 4 for a likely brief session.
State Governor K Rosaiah summoned the House to meet at 10 am on December 4, Legislative Assembly Secretary A M P Jamaludeen said in an official release here today.
The session, which is expected to be a brief one, comes in the backdrop of war of words between Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and DMK President M Karunanidhi in the past few days over the convening of the Assembly.
Karunanidhi had been demanding that the Assembly be convened to debate important issues like proposed increase in electricity tariff.
The DMK chief even mocked at Panneerselvam, who has taken over the chiefministership after AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa attracted disqualification on being convicted in a wealth case by a court, saying he was perhaps apprehensive of facing the session.
However, Panneerselvam had maintained his government knew when to convene the Assembly and cited how the House met the following year after it was adjourned in 2009 during the previous DMK regime.
Hitting back, Panneerselvam took a dig at Karunanidhi saying he had not been attending the House proceedings, prompting the 90-year-old former chief minister to say yesterday that he was ready to be present if suitable seating arrangements were made for him.
Several issues, as indicated by the opposition, including the proposed construction of a dam near Mekedatu by Karnataka, proposed power tariff hike, the recent increase in the price of Aavin milk and continuing arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen are likely to come up during the proceedings.
