DMK president Karunanidhi today said the Tamil Nadu government should formally provide the details related to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's illness as the people would be interested in knowing it.
Seeking to target Jayalalithaa for not attending an Iftar party hosted by AIADMK here yesterday here, Karunanidhi said,"if Chief Minister has an illness can that be brushed aside."
"Should not the government formally announce the details related to that (illness)?, will not the people be interested in knowing about it?" he asked.
Citing a sudden illness, the AIADMK chief had yesterday said "I am unable to come to the Iftar party due to a sudden illness though it is my wish to participate in it (organised by AIADMK) as usual." Her address was read out by Finance Minister and party treasurer O Panneerselvam in the event.
"Although I am unable to participate, my thoughts are about the Iftar party, I have asked Panneerselvam to read out my address to share my thoughts with you," she had said in the address.
She praised Islam, and narrated an anecdote which spoke of Prophet Mohammed's virtues. Conveying her Ramadan greetings, she said the teachings of the Prophet should continuously be followed.
Karunanidhi, in the release, described how a grand reception replete with decorative banners to welcome Jayalalithaa to the function was put up.
"Since Jayalalithaa herself had invited, Muslims and leaders of alliance parties had turned up for the event. However, the person who invited them did not turn up," he said.
The DMK Chief quoted a news report to say that though on the same day (yesterday) she had given away prizes to students, the government said yesterday that the event took place on June 29 and that only a formal press release was issued on Wednesday.
