"Governor of Tamil Nadu K Rosaiah unveiled the statue of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at Raj Bhavan, and paid floral tributes to him in commemoration of the National Science Day," a Raj Bhavan release said.
The governor said it was a privilege to unveil Kalam's statue. He praised the missile man as a visionary, and a compassionate human being whose mission was to create a knowledge based society.
"He (Kalam) felt at home whenever he was in Raj Bhavan and it had the privilege of hosting him many a time," the release said.
Apart from the new statue of Kalam, Raj Bhavan has statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Vallabhbhai Patel, Rajendra Prasad, S Radhakrishnan, Rajaji and Moulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Top government officials and authorities of various universities participated.
