TN leading job creator in mfg sector: Assocham

Tamil Nadu is leading the chart with a share of over 15 per cent in the total of 1.29 crore jobs generated in the registered manufacturing sector across India, industry body Assocham has said.
The state is followed by Maharashtra with 14 per cent, while Gujarat (10.5 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (9 per cent) and Karnataka (7 per cent) in terms of job generation in registered manufacturing sector across the country in 2013-15, according to a study on 'Assessment of employment in registered manufacturing industry' by Assocham.
Besides, Tamil Nadu (1.2 per cent) and West Bengal (0.2 per cent) are the lone states that have recorded a positive year-on-year (YoY) growth rate in 2011-12 and 2012-13 in employment generation in the manufacturing sector, while all other states registered a slump in this regard, it said.

Andhra Pradesh (12 per cent), Rajasthan (7 per cent), Maharashtra (5 per cent), Karnataka (5 per cent) and Uttar Pradesh (4.5 per cent) registered maximum decline in job generation Y-o-Y in the manufacturing sector.
"Slowdown in performance of the manufacturing sector has had an impact on employment generation evidently as the number of jobs created in India's manufacturing sector had declined by about four per cent i.E. From 1.34 crore in 2011-12 to 1.29 crore in 2012-13," the report prepared by Eonomic Research Bureau of Assocham said.
Food products (12 per cent), textiles (11 per cent),basic metals (8 per cent), wearing apparel (7 per cent) and other non-metallic mineral products (7 per cent) were the top sectors accounting for the highest share in employment generated by registered manufacturing sector in India as of 2012-13.

Apart from wearing apparel, all of the aforementioned sectors had recorded a negative YoY growth rate in employment generation - food products (5 per cent), textiles (4 per cent), basic metals (6 per cent), wearing apparel (0.0 per cent) and other non-metallic mineral products (five per cent), it said.
