Tamil Nadu lad Dhakhineshwar Suresh, seeded fifth, upset top-seed Parikshit Somani of Bengal 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the boys singles final of the Adidas MCC Junior National Clay Court Championship here today.
In the final tomorrow, Suresh will take on fourth-seeded Abhimanyu Vannemreddy of Delhi, who got the better of unseeded Rhythm Malhotra 7-6, 6-3.
The girl's singles final would see top-seed Akanksha Bhan of Gujarat clash with Shivani Manjanna of Karnataka. Bhan, who is on a roll, outclassed Chandigarh's 16th-seeded Prinkle Singh 6-3, 6-0.
The matches had to be shifted from the clay courts at MCC to the hard courts at the SDAT Tennis Stadium at Nungambakkam due to overnight rain.
The boys semifinals saw the smooth-stroking Suresh start strongly to capture the first set even as the top-seed Somani was a tad slow in finding his rhythm.
The second set saw Somani break the lanky Tamil Nadu southpaw mid-way to bounce back into contention.
In the decider, Suresh raised his game and volleyed crisply to get a crucial break of serve in the sixth game and went on to win the set 6-3.
Earlier in the quarterfinals, Suresh proved too strong for the third-seeded Megh Bhargav Kuma Patel of Gujarat and won rather comfortably.
The run of Tamil Nadu qualifier Yeshwanth Loganathan ended with a three-set loss at the hands of Rhythm Malhotra.
