The initiative is promoted by Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd and sales of products online was formally launched by Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar at a function here, an official release said.
According to the Fisheries Development Corporation website, the State has different types of aquatic resources like freshwater, brackish water, riverine stretches, cold water streams.
They have a potential to yield 4.5 lakh metric tonnes of fish a year. The marine fisheries potential is estimated at 0.719 million tonnes from less than 50 metres depth and 0.35 million tonnes beyond 50 metres depth.
