To ensure better delivery of its services, the state government today announced implementing a two-phased Tamil Nadu Geographical Information System, allocating an initial sum of Rs 1.32 crore.
The proposal would address the need for a common platform for various state government departments to use 'spatial datasets' and a separate infrastructure would be set up for this purpose, an official release here said.
The system would enable secure usage of public data and avoid additional expenses of creating separate database for every other department, it said.
Using the Tamil Nadu Geographical Information System (TNGIS), government departments can download relevant maps, besides effectively planning, deciding and monitoring delivery of public servcies, it said.
The first phase would be implemented at the headquarters here and later expanded to districts.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has sanctioned Rs 1.32 crore towards the first phase and the project would be implemented by Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency, it said.
