Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said construction of toilets for women in the police force has been taken up on a war footing in Bihar and except for eight police stations, the rest 559 already have the facility.
"Due to earmarking of 35 per cent reservation for women in police jobs, a large number of women are joining the police force and are posted in different police stations," Kumar said.
Considering the fact that they would require basic facilities at police stations, the government initiated a plan to construct toilets for women in every police station, the CM said.
Officer In-charge of a police station was entrusted with the responsibility to build a toilet for women in that police station out of seven models provided, depending on available land, Kumar said addressing a function to inaugurate the newly constructed building of the Police Building Construction Corporation.
"Work of toilet building for women has been completed in 559 police stations and only eight have been left out due to land dispute," Kumar said in the presence of Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, DGP P K Thakur and Principal Secretary Home Amir Subhani among others.
He instructed that in the remaining eight police stations modular toilets be installed.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a helpline for police control room installed at the state headquarters.
In this control room, which would function directly under the state police chief, anybody from any part of Bihar could register a complaint of crime or those related to behaviour of policemen, he said.
The complaint would be registered in the control room which would send the matter to respective superintendents of police and police stations directly for action.
Kumar said the experiment has been initiated to strengthen "rule of law" which is at the core of "sushashan" (governance).
