According to reports, Hardy will likely land the coveted role as his name surfaces as the front runner for the gig. However, Rocket Pictures has not handed an official offer yet to the 35-year-old actor.
Previously, Justin Timberlake was John's "number one" choice to tackle the role. The "In Time" actor was also said to have been in talks with John, and seemingly close to inking a deal to headline the biopic. However, no deals were eventually sealed
Grammy Award-winning John has promised that the film will not be "a normal biopic" simply because his life "hasn't been like that."
The upcoming film is directed by Gracey with the script by "Billy Elliot" scribe Lee Hall. Steve Hamilton Shaw and David Furnish come aboard to serve as producers with John to executive produce the film.
