Japanese carmaker Toyota today launched updated versions of its sedan Camry in India, priced up to Rs 31.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The company, which is present in the Indian market through a joint venture with the Kirloskar Group -- Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) -- today introduced an updated hybrid version of the sedan priced at Rs 31.92 lakh.
It also launched an updated version of petrol powered Camry priced at Rs 28.80 lakh.
"We have sold more than 8,000 Camrys since launch. Camry Hybrid, India's first-ever locally manufactured hybrid, has also been well accepted," TKM Managing Director Naomi Ishii told reporters here.
There is an increased awareness and acceptance of hybrid in the Indian market, he added.
At present, hybrid version constitutes 73 per cent of total Camry sales in the country, Ishii said.
The company had first launched petrol powered Camry in India in 2002. In 2012 it started local manufacturing of the car.
Camry hybrid version was introduced in the country a year later in 2013.
Toyota, the world's largest automaker by volume, is making a strategic shift in India, focusing on safety and taking a premium position in each of the segment it is present rather than chasing numbers.
The company has started offering airbags as standard across all its models sold in the country since the beginning of the year.
