Trade union leader Prabhakar Adelkar no more

Senior trade union leader Prabhakar Adelkar passed away here this evening after a protracted illness, his family members said. He was 85.
Adelkar is survived by his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grand children.
Adelkar hailed from Malvan in Sindhudurga district in Konkan region of Maharashtra. His family was associated with the Rashtra Seva Dal. After coming to Mumbai, he actively took part in the agitation of textile mill workers.
After the Finex Mills was gutted in fire, Adelkar joined the Municipal Mazdoor Union and later the Municipal Labour Union.
He started his work with trade union leaders, including Anna sane and Madhav Shetye. He was also associated with the trade union leaders and participated in the agitations initiated by leaders including George Fernandes, Tulsi Boda, Jagannath Jadhav, Somnath Dubey, Sharad Rao and Shankar Salvi, among others.
Adelkar was cremated at Mulund in Thane district. A large congregation, including trade union and political leaders, attended the funeral.
