Scores of traders of PVC Market at Tikri Kalan, led by DPCC chief Arvinder Singh, today staged a protest outside Lt Governor's office here against alleged harassment by municipal corporations and police.
"Thousands of traders and workers involved in dealing with waste plastic at Tikri Kalan's PVC market have come here to inform the L-G how they were being exploited and harassed by the officials of the Delhi Police and the MCD in a bid to ruin their business," Arvinder Singh told reporters here.
He also said that these traders only deal with waste plastic and don't burn plastic as "we are also against burning of plastic".
"These traders only collect waste plastic for selling purpose and their tempos should not be confiscated. The traders and workers who do business at the Lal Dora area of the village, should not be displaced as they were waiting for the allotment of shops by the DDA. But, the Delhi Police was bent upon crushing their business," he added.
Another Congress leader Rajkumar Chouhan also said that they want L-G to direct the officials of the Delhi Government and the Delhi Police not to "harass" these people.
"If the officials did not stop harassing them, Congress will not keep quiet and will go to any extent in their fight against harassment," Chouhan added.
Ater the demonstration, a delegation of traders led by Arvinder Singh LG Najeeb Jung and handed over a memorandum to him in favour of their demands.
