Traffic was affected in many parts of the national capital on Tuesday due to the Tazia procession during Muharram, officials said.
Vehicles moved bumper-to-bumper on roads connecting Ghaziabad to Shastri Park, Khajuri to Gokul Puri and Hamdard T Point to Khan Pur T Point. Traffic bottlenecks were also witnessed at stretches of Kalindi Kunj to Meetha Pur and Kalindi Kunj to Jaitpur. The Delhi Traffic Police on Twitter alerted travellers of congested routes.
"There is a likelihood of slowing down and congestion of traffic, therefore, the general public and motorists are advised to avoid the mentioned routes and follow the directions of the traffic policemen posted all along the routes of procession to avoid inconvenience and also follow the updates by Delhi Traffic Police on Social Media platforms like Facebook and Twitter," the traffic police in its advisory said.
On the 10th day of Muharram, Muslims across the world mourn the death of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet, and honour the sacrifices of the martyrs in the battle of Karbala.
