A young girl, allegedly trafficked from Jharkhand and forced to work as maid in the national capital, has been rescued from her employer's house in Punjabi Bagh area in West Delhi.
The girl was rescued during a raid by a joint team of Delhi Police and NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) on a complaint by the child rights group.
The victim had been working at the house in Shivaji Park area of Punjabi Bagh for the past 16 months, said BBA.
The girl, said to be around 13-year-old, is a resident of Narsinghpur village in Gumla district of Jharkhamd. She was brought to Delhi by an agent who sold her to a placement agency, it said.
The girl said she had also worked at another house before the house at Punjabi Bagh.
As per the girl's statement, she was not paid any money for her work.
The girl said at the Punjabi Bagh house, she was tortured and beaten up over little mistakes.
"She slapped, punched me in the face. Once I broke a glass, she twisted my arm and almost broke it," the girl said about her employer.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh said they had registered a case and were trying to ascertain the age of the girl before arresting her employer.
If the girl is a minor, stringent relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, besides the anti-trafficking law could be added in the case.
The victim has been sent to Nirmal Chaya rehabilitation home on orders of the Child Welfare Committee.
