A drunk man was killed after being hit by a train with his body getting entangled in the engine, forcing it to halt for nearly two hours at Keolari railway crossing, police said today.
The incident took place last night when the Nainpur-bound train (58855) from Chhindwara was crossing the Keolari railway crossing and a drunk man stepped on the railway track.
Though the driver applied brakes to stop the train, it hit the man identified as 40-year-old Shivram Daheria, Keolari police station in-charge, S S Dhurve said.
Daheria's body got entangled in the railway engine and it took nearly two hours for railway employees to separate it from the locomotive, he said.
He said that the victim's family members said in their statement that Daheria was mentally disturbed and used to consume liquor.
His mobile phone was also recovered from the spot, Dhurve said, adding that after the autopsy, the body was handed over to the victim's family members.
The matter is being further probed by Government Railway Police (GRP) Nainpur, he said.
