Train services disrupted in central Assam

Train services were disrupted for more than four hours today in central Assam's Lumding-Guwahati section following a blockade by protestors in Morigaon district.
Agitators, under the banner of the local All Assam Students' Union (AASU) unit, blocked railway tracks at the Jagiroad station and gheraoed NF Railway General Manager R S Virdi who was on an inspection tour to Lumding.
The agitated crowd of more than three thousand people were demanding among others the halt of Jan Shatabdi and Kamrup Express at Jagiroad station and demanded a written order in this regard from Singh.
Morigaon Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar said the police rushed to the spot and urged the protestor to lift the blockade, but as they refused. They had to be forcibly lifted.
The police took about 700 agitators into custody and the tracks were cleared after 3.30 PM.
