The body of Assistant Road Transport Officer (administration) Mahendra Dutt Tiwari was found hanging from a hook in the ceiling in his rented house in Turkmanpur area here last evening, they said.
He was posted at the adjoining Sant Kabir Nagar District and had additional charge of ARTO, Gorakhpur.
The reason behind the suicide is unknown yet, police said.
However, his driver Islam Ali, who found his body late in the evening, said the officer was under depression after the blue beacon was removed from the roof of his private car by a police team near Nausarh Crossing on Monday.
