Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governors and Chief Ministers of eight North-eastern states were supposed to be present in the meeting.
Tomorrow's NEC meeting assumed significance keeping in mind the Prime Minister's presence who is expected to brief the states of the region about the Act East Policy, one of the newly launched programme of the NDA government.
"The Chief Minister, who is also a Politburo member of CPI (M), will attend the party's state committee meeting beginning on the same day. That's why he decided to skip the NEC meeting", said a senior party leader.
However, Governor Tathagata Roy, Industries and Commerce Minister Tapan Chakraborty and Chief Secretary Yaspal Singh would represent the state in the NEC meeting.
