Tripura government today ruled out possibility of ceasefire with the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), which concluded two rounds of tripartite talks with the state and central governments.
"Two rounds of talks were concluded in Delhi and Shillong in last six months and nothing fruitful has come out so far. NLFT has proposed for ceasefire, but the state government made it clear there will be no ceasefire and the security forces will continue to provide security to the citizens," Tripura CM Manik Sarkar told reporters.
"They did not submit their demands. One good thing was, they agreed to find the solutions under the constitutional framework. Even while sitting at the negotiation table, the outfit went on making their extortion and abduction bids, which is not acceptable," he said.
Stating that insurgency was an offshoot of backwardness and lack of employment, Sarkar said the National Skill Development Mission (NSDM) should create jobs in the Northeast to stop the menace.
"NSDM is looking at skill development, but if the opportunities for employment is not created for the youths of the North East region, insurgency will continue," he said.
The Chief Minister said the 'Look-East' policy formulated by the former UPA government was converted to 'Act-East' policy by the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but to implement the policy, infrastructure should be built-up in the region along with industrialisation.
"If infrastructure is made and industrialisation takes place, insurgency will come down because the youths will have access to jobs," he added.
