The objective of the skill and employability training was to empower communities through skill and enterprise development, thus improving the socio-economic status of the society and empowering the SC/ST communities, said Biren Bhuta, Chief of Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel.
During the 2014-15 financial year, he said Tata Steel trained nearly 3,458 youths including 1,567 from the SC/ST communities, in various vocational trades.
These included skill in trades like ITI, site safety supervisor, nursing, community health provider, construction, automobiles, motor driving, cosmetology, plastic technology, apparel design, house-keeping, he said.
Referring to the training in house-keeping sector for under-matriculate candidates, Bhuta said the specially designed three-month course was being provided by TSRDS along with Indian Hotels and NGO Pratham at Kolebira, in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharswan district.
All the 116 candidates including 75 SC/ST candidates got employed in reputed hotels across the country, he said.
