The accused, Salauddin Shaikh, who held private coaching classes in Jeevan Baugh locality in Mumbra, was arrested yesterday for molesting the 17-year-old victim last week, Police Sub-Inspector P B Pawar of Mumbra police station told PTI today.
On June 10, the victim, after attending classes, got injured when she was climing down the stairs of the coaching centre building. As she was unable to walk properly, the accused told her that he would drop her home and then took her inside his room where he molested her, police said.
The relative rescued the girl and informed her parents, who rushed to Mumbra police station and registered a complaint against Shaikh.
Following the incident, the accused fled the town, but was arrested after his return on Tuesday, police said.
Shaikh was charged under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, they added.
