Kanpur SSP Shalabh Mathur said that accused Suresh, a rickshaw-puller, kidnapped the girl from her house on June 5 following which he raped her and then strangulated her to death.
Suresh then dumped the body in the bushes at Sujatganj, he said.
The body was recovered on June 6 and sent for post-mortem examination which confirmed rape, he added.
The accused, who was arrested today, has confessed to have committed the crime, Mathur said, adding, a case under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act has been registered against him.
