A joint squad of the border guarding Sashastra Seema Bal and state police launched an operation in Sonitpur yesterday and nabbed two persons, Birsa Toppo (43) and Jased Basumatari (27), who were allegedly carrying three AK-56 rifles, six magazines and 120 cartridges in a vehicle.
"Both the apprehended persons said the weapons were given to them by a person in Dimapur in Nagaland and they were paid to deliver these weapons in Udalguri District of Assam, allegedly for use by Anti-talks faction of the NDFB (Sougbijit) group," the SSB said in a statement.
