Two BJP supporters today attempted to climb the Clock Tower in the historic Lal Chowk here to hoist the party flag, triggering protests by the local shopkeepers.
The two boys from Jammu were taken into preventive custody for the act.
"At around 8.30 am, two boys from Jammu tried to hoist a BJP flag on 'Ghanta Ghar' (Clock Tower) at Lal Chowk. They were taken to police station Maisuma," a police official said.
The attempt to hoist the BJP flag at Clock Tower led protests by shopkeepers who observed a spontaneous shutdown.
Shops in and around Lal Chowk were closed but traffic plied through the Square as usual, the official said.
