Two die after consuming spurious liquor in UP
Press Trust of India Moradabad (UP) Two persons died today after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Bangla Gaon here, police said.
Three persons purchased the liquor from a shop and Manish (24) and Manoj (30) died immediately after consuming it, Station House Officer of Nagphani police station, Shahroz Anwar said.
After the incident, irate locals set fire to the shop and light force was used to disperse them, Anwar said, adding, the situation is now under control.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem, the SHO said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Excise Prabhakar Suryanarayan Kanade said liquor was supplied to the shop from the government stock.
He said that 75 quarter-bottles were sold this morning and, except the two deceased, others who consumed them were healthy. This provides a reason to suspect that the liquor might not have been a part of the government stock and might have been purchased from somewhere else, he added.
Kanade said a high-level inquiry has been setup in the matter and the liquor stocks in every shop here are being checked.
The cause of death would be ascertained on the basis of the postmortem report, the DC said.
