The victims had come to attend the "bhandara " (mass feast) at the Mahadev temple near the ancient 'Pani wali dharamshala", city magistrate R P Singh said.
As there was a big crowd in the 'bhandara' people were standing along the railing of the pond which broke and some of them fell into it late last night, the city magistrate said.
Though others were rescued by the onlookers, Ankit (23) and Poonam (17) drowned and their bodies could be recovered only this morning, he added.
