Two men, who posed as Naxals and tried to extort money from a businessman in Chhattisgarh's Ambikapur district, have been arrested, police said today.
The accused, identified as Ejaz Khan (24) and Saroj Khan (25), were arrested yesterday from the bus stand area under Ambikapur police station limits, Ambikapur police Station House Officer (SHO) Suresh Bhagat said.
On October 25, the businessman had complained to police that two persons claiming to be naxals have demanded a levy of Rs 40 lakh from him on phone and threatened him not to inform anyone about it, the SHO said.
After verifying the complaint, the police yesterday laid a trap at Ambikapur bus stand where the accused had called the businessman.
As the men reached to take the extortion money in a car, police team rounded them up, he said.
A sum of Rs 8,000 and three mobile sets, besides the car in which they had arrived, were also seized from their possession, the SHO said.
Later, during interrogation, the accused also revealed about their third partner, following which a manhunt has been launched to arrest him, he said.
A case has been registered in this connection, the SHO said, adding that further probe is underway.
