A passenger vehicle with seven persons on board skidded off the road and fell into Barangi Nallah at Dandipora village, around 85 km from here, when it was going to Larnoo from Kokernag, a police official said.
He said a joint team of police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire and emergency services immediately rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation during which five passengers, including two women, were rescued.
Heavy rains and snow lashed wide parts of the Kashmir valley during the past three days as a result of which the water level in Jhelum river and other water bodies have touched the flood alert mark.
Authorities have already issued a flood alert in central and south Kashmir and asked people in low lying areas and river embankments to remain cautious.
